Moor management

Integrated moor management

Any of the previously mentioned techniques can be used on their own but combining them will enhance their value.

For example, precision cutting on the edges of the moor can be used to create runs and snare sites for foxes, and trap sites for other predators creating a ‘cordon sanitaire’ around the perimeter with additional sites on the moor. Any traps, shown by the ATC as needing a visit, can be visited by altering the day’s heather cutting route to the appropriate places, thus making the fullest use of the keeper’s time.

Modern management systems must be able to cope with extreme weather lasting several weeks, plus a fast-changing rural environment.  British Moorlands Ltd is there to help.
